So you want to be a vine reviewer

This is information on how to join Amazon vine as interpreted by me and my understanding of the rules.

In ye olde days Amazon hand picked it's vine voices by hand. People were chosen based on how well they wrote reviews, and possibly how many hearts (helpful clicks) they had.

Sometime in the last 10 or so years this practice ceased. Now as far as anyone can tell people are picked at random. However these are the known criteria to be able to write reviews and possibly be selected for the vine program. You will need:

To have an Active Amazon account.

To spend $50 on Amazon.com, using a credit or debit card, in the past 12 months (every year).

To write at least one review.

How will you be notified that you are selected? You will receive an email, or a message will pop up while you are on Amazon.

The most common reaction to the vine invite is "is this a scam". Since most people are completely unaware of the vine program despite it being show on reviews in green letters "Amazon Vine Customer Review of Free Product"

The next thing you will need to do is read all the provided guides, TOS, and other literature. READ ALL OF IT COMPLETELY!. No matter how boring you think it is. READ ALL OF IT!. because 99.999% of the questions you will have are answered in the provided information.

Fill out the tax information. If you do not do this and provide them with your SSN number you cannot be in the program.

Why must you give them your SSN? because the IRS got wind of the program a few years ago and declared that receiving free products is income (in the USA). Amazon did not come up with this rule the IRS did. at the end of the year amazon will provide a link to a 1099-NEC PDF file. At the time of this writing the amount that you will receive the 1099 is $600 though supposedly this will increase to $2000.

Technically if the IRS does not receive a 1099 then they do not know about the income.

Once all the paperwork is filled out then and approved you will be able to start ordering.

The issue is that when it is approved Amazon does not give you any further information on what to do or how to get back to the vine website. So you did read all the info right. You did see the message that tells you to bookmark www.amazon.com/vine right? No? of course you didn't read anything because you can't follow instructions, and have the attention span of a gnat with alzheimers.

What do you do now? that is for the next post.
